Emerald Ash Borer

Summary
Researchers Collecting EAB Larvae (7/22/2009)

OSU scientists - in collaboration with colleagues from other universities and federal agencies - are involved with groundbreaking research projects aimed both at protecting trees from emerald ash borer (EAB) now and dealing with the effects of this pest in the future. Recently, some of these researchers were in the Toledo area to collect larvae of the emerald ash borer (EAB) for their current research projects. The insects were collected from underneath the bark of infested ash trees in Springfield and Swanton Townships. Specimens collected ranged greatly in size and their development. Some were newly hatched 1st instar larvae, while others were fully developed and in the 4th instar (and of course, many in between). Information on much of the research being done on EAB can be found on the emeraldashborer.info website at http://emeraldashborer.info
