The Ohio State University Emerald Ash Borer Outreach Team's mission is to provide the citizens of Ohio and beyond with the knowledge and resources to best manage the impact of EAB. To accomplish this, the team's efforts are centered on the development and delivery of comprehensive communications that provide non-biased, science-based information to home and woodland owners, communities and industry professionals. The OSU EAB Outreach Team offers an unparalleled resource of experts in all fields which touch EAB. The dissemination of information from this alliance can always be relied upon as trustworthy, unbiased and factual.
The OSU EAB Outreach Team was formed to support the outreach efforts of the Ohio Department of Agriculture (the lead EAB agency in Ohio), the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, USDA-APHIS and USDA Forest Service. These agencies, together with The Ohio State University, make up the Ohio EAB Task Force - which oversees all aspects of EAB in the state. An effective EAB outreach campaign demands a consistent message, which requires close cooperation among Task Force members and all other organizations involved in EAB outreach and education.
Outreach programs and materials emphasize the following key messages:
1. Understanding the current status of the EAB invasion and its consequences.
2. Understanding the importance of regulatory compliance, including quarantine awareness.
3. Options for managing ash trees in residential landscapes and urban forests.
4. Options for managing ash trees in woodlots and forests.
